JSAP Program Overview

The Junior Stars Afterschool Program at Arrowhead Elementary School (JSAP @ AES) is an academic enrichment program funded by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) through the American Rescue Plan Elementary and Secondary Relief Afterschool Program (ARP ESSR). This program has been established to accelerate academic performance and support social and emotional wellbeing and development for students grades 2-5. ARP ESSR was established to help close learning gaps caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Specific focus will be placed on enhancing math and reading/language arts skills, as well as other areas, using a structured, academically enriched afterschool program that complements the school-day program.

Academic Enhancement (Mondays and Wednesdays)
This program offers structured mathematics, reading, and writing academic enrichment activities.

Enrichment Activities (Tuesdays and Thursdays)
As students progress, enrichment clubs added into the program such as , environmental science,
robotics, dance, chorus, entrepreneurship, and STEP. Enrichment activities will be added based on
academic decisions made by the principal and teachers of the afterschool program.
